(NEW KENT, VA – 7/15/14) – Pro Rodeo action returns to Colonial Downs August 1st & 2nd in the summer edition of the Virginia Stampede presented by Myrna’s Boots ‘n Bits. National bull riders, barrel racers, steer wrestlers and calf ropers among others will compete under the lights in seven different International Pro Rodeo Association (IPRA) events each night.
The “Stampede’s” funny man/rodeo clown will be Austin Stewart, a 5th generation cowboy from Charlotte, North Carolina who has been working the rodeo circuit for more than 15 years. Also known as "Charlotte Flames", Stewart started trick roping when he was just 5 years old and performed in his first rodeo when he was 6. He has competed and performed in rodeos throughout the U.S. and Canada, was featured on “America's Got Talent” and sparks laughter with his jokes and antics.
Announcer Matt McGee of Oak Ridge, Missouri returns to emcee his fourth straight Virginia Stampede. The popular announcer, who also competes in team roping, travels 85,000 miles a year to announce 140 performances over a 48 week period. McGee enlightens attendees by providing play by play commentary and referencing replays over Colonial’s infield jumbotron.
Gates open each night at 6 PM and the rodeo action begins at 7:30 PM. The trackside concert stage will feature live country music with Runaway Rodeo on Friday and Jackson Ward on Saturday. Advance general admission tickets are $15, and kids 12 & under are $5. A money saving Family 4-Pack is also available for $30. Grandstand seats are $25 for adults & $12 for kids.
